Kids Clinics

Summer 2018
Pickleball is one of the fastest growing sports in America and in Western PA!

An excellent way for all kids to develop their racquet skills and to get great exercise in a fun environment.  Because you are using a short handle paddle instead of a long handle racquet, it is much easier for kids to pick up and develop their ground strokes in which they can then transfer those skills to other racquet sports.  Our clinics are taught by CTPA instructors and classes will be taught based on the skill level that the student processes, from beginners to advance level players.

Every Pickleball Camper receives a free paddle!

Level 1:  Learn the rules of pickleball and develop good paddle skills.  Start to develop good pickleball habits and skills by practicing and developing ground strokes like backhand, forehand, serves, and service returns.

Level 2:  Usually assigned after attending at Level 1: More advance development of skills including dinking, lobs, and other techniques taught as an intermediate player.

Level 3:  Development of the tactics and strategies of the game including proper approach to the net, body positioning, communicating with a partner and other techniques associated with advance play.
Kids Love Pickleball
CTPA is the largest organized pickleball association in Western PA and many of its members will be volunteering to teach your child not only how to play but providing different skill levels with each age group to help them advance even further. Some classes will be taught indoors at the Community Center gym and others outdoor on the pickleball courts in Graham Park. Spaces will be limited to assure enough supervision to help your child progress to the next skill level. The head instructors Dale Wagner and Conni Mazzoni are experienced CTPA players (and medal winners) and have taught many adults and kids the game of pickleball.  “Our instructions will be age specific with emphasis on the “Three F”, Fitness, Friends & Fun”. Pickleball is great exercise but also helps to develop excellent eye-hand coordination for other sports like tennis, squash, racquet ball, and other racquet/paddle sports. Pickleball truly is a lifelong sport and one that the whole family can enjoy together.

All Levels are played at the same time but on different courts/areas. Our instructor will make sure your child is assigned to the proper level based on their initial evaluation and how well they progress during the clinic. Even if your child comes in at level 1, based on their progressions we may move them with higher level students in the same age group. If you sign up your child for beginner’s level in June, they could come back for additional instruction in August (or next year) at Level 2 and a third time at Level 3. All beginner players will be given a paddle and pickleball to keep and take home along with at home instruction sheet to continue to practice the sport even after the camp is over. Maybe Mom & Dad will want to sign up for adult pickleball classes and learn the game and discover why this sport is growing fast….because it is fun!
